Deposits/Payments

An initial deposit of $2,500 is required to confirm your place on the tour. A 2nd instalment of $2,500 is required on or before 28 February 2018 and the final balance payment is due on or before 31 May 2018.

Flights

If you wish to arrange your own flights you can remove $2,500 from the tour price.

Australia & New Zealand – Dubai – London with Emirates

Friday 3 – Saturday 4 August

Departs all major cities across Australia and New Zealand on Friday 3 August and arriving in London at 11.40am on Saturday 4 August. On arrival at London Heathrow we will be met and transferred to our Windsor Hotel and despite the long journey we will have an afternoon visit to Windsor Castle included as well as a group dinner this evening. The Hotel is immediately opposite Windsor Castle in the centre of this historic town.

Our first full day on the tour and after a leisurely breakfast we have a prompt 10am Coach departure for our especially designed tour of Hampton Court Palace where we are indeed privileged to include a workshop at the prestigious Royal School of Needlework (see www.royal-needlework.org.uk ).

Monday 6 August

A cracking day ahead as we include a visit to the capital with a special curator’s tour of the fantastic V & A Museum as well as a visit to the state rooms at Buckingham Palace (only available 6 weeks a year).

Windsor – Bath

We say farewell to Windsor and travel west to the beautiful city of Bath and include a visit to the Fashion Museum and the Roman Baths, followed by afternoon tea in the Pump Room.

Our day starts with a visit to the fantastic American Museum in Bath (strong on textiles) before driving through the Cotswolds to Blenheim Palace, birth place of Sir Winston Churchill, where we have a tour to view the tapestries. We’ll find some time to get a sandwich and continue to our hotel at The NEC Birmingham, home for the next few nights. The Hotel is within easy walking distance to the Festival of Quilts exhibition itself as well as being close to the Resorts World shopping and cinema complex.

We’ll have a full day tour from our Birmingham base to visit Stratford–upon–Avon and during our time in Stratford we will have a private “behind the Scenes tour” of the Royal Shakespeare Company with special emphasis on the Wardrobe …. or for those who prefer, stay and have another day at the Festival of Quilts.

Birmingham – Scotland

Sunday 12 August

A big day ahead as we make our way to Scotland and our hotel in central Scotland. We’ll stop briefly to grab a sandwich & coffee before heading further north and calling in at the award-winning New Lanark World Heritage site Visitor Centre which tells the fascinating story of the cotton mill village of New Lanark which was founded in the 18th century http://www.newlanark.org/visitorcentre/ . New Lanark is 270 miles from NEC (approximately 6 hours drive) and the hotel is another 30 miles so our expected arrival time at our lovely central Scotland Hotel should be around 5pm. Time to check-in, a quick freshen up and tonight the group will have an evening meal at the hotel included.

Day trip to Edinburgh

Monday 13 August

What better time to visit Edinburgh than August! Our tour coach will take us into the middle of this stunning city and we’ll have a full day to explore Scotland’s Capital at our own pace, whether we choose to join a sightseeing tour, visit the castle, visit the tartan weavers, stroll along the shops and gardens of Princes Street or along the Royal Mile. The iconic Edinburgh Festival Fringe is in full swing and those interested (especially those who’ve been to Edinburgh before) should see lots of performances in the course of the day. www.edfringe.com

Day trip to Glasgow

Tuesday 14 August

Today we visit Glasgow for a Rennie Mackintosh walking tour with the students of the Glasgow School of Arts. We will also visit the Scottish Opera for a talk on the costumes before heading to the excellent Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum.

Weymyss School of Needlework

Wednesday 15 August

We head to Fife for a full day with the ladies of the Wemyss School of Needlework. We will have the opportunity to visit the shop and museum, explore the area and create needlework of our choice, whether it is Crewelwork, Gold work or needlepoint. A kit up to the value of £30 is included but you can choose to upgrade on the day and we have an included lunch here together.

Day trip to Dundee

Workshop & visit to the Britannia

A fabulous half day workshop with Pat Archibald as well as a visit to the Royal Yacht Britannia (we will also view the famous Queensferry/Forth bridges).
Saturday 18 August – Falkirk via Edinburgh & Munich to Passau. A big day ahead as we depart our Falkirk Hotel sharp at 9am for the short journey to Edinburgh Airport where we catch a flight to Munich and on arrival are transferred straight to the beautiful German city of Passau, our home for the next 2 nights.

A completely free day to explore this lovely city. Passau, a German city on the Austrian border, lies at the confluence of the Danube, Inn and Ilz rivers. Known as the Three Rivers City, it’s overlooked by the Veste Oberhaus, a 13th-century hilltop fortress housing a city museum and observation tower.

Another free day to enjoy this stunning city before in late afternoon boarding the MS Serenity and enjoying a magnificent Danube Cruise (all meals included) for the next 7 nights.

Melk & Vienna

Tuesday 21 August

This morning we will enjoy breakfast on board whilst arriving in the little town of Melk, where we include a visit the world famous Abbey. Melk Abbey is situated above the town with stunning views of the Wachau Valley and River Danube. It is a beautiful and elegant Baroque Monastry which is famous worldwide and has been occupied by Benedictine Monks for over 900 years. At lunchtime we continue our cruise through the scenic Wachau valley to Vienna. This evening the ship arrives on the outskirts of Vienna and is berthed here overnight.

Vienna

Wednesday 22 August

Today we explore Vienna, the magnificent charming city of music with its Grand palaces, baroque castles, Imperial Squares and narrow medieval lanes. This morning we have a Vienna City Sightseeing Tour which takes you to the Ringstrasse boulevard, passing the majestic architecture and discover an atmosphere steeped in history. In the afternoon, we have an included a visit to see the most outstanding medieval textiles from the collection at the MAK Museum before visiting the best fabric shops in the city. If time allows, do visit one of the famous coffee houses whose pastries inspired our Viennese Whirls!

Budapest

Thursday 23 August

This morning we arrive in Budapest – the best way to arrive in this stunning city is on the river so be sure that you are on deck as we arrive! We have the rest of the day and overnight to explore Budapest and we have included a tour to show you the highlights of this delightful city.

Budapest & Bratislava

Friday 24 August

We have the morning in Budapest and we take the opportunity to visit the Goldberger Textile Museum. This is a hidden gem offering a glimpse into Budapest’s role in textile history in the former home of The Goldberger family who established their textile business in 1784, it’s a visit not to be missed! At lunchtime we say farewell to Budapest as we set sail for the beautiful city of Bratislava, the capital of Slovakia.

Bratislava & Durnstein

Saturday 25 August

We wake up in Bratislava! The capital of Slovakia – an intriguing and relatively new capital, topped with a castle which overlooks the lovely pastel coloured old town. We have an included visit to see the colourful Slovakian Embroidery and some free time in the old town before a visit to a fabric shop (or two!). In the afternoon we leave Bratislava and cruise in the afternoon and overnight towards Dürnstein.

Durnstein & Passau

Sunday 26 August

Wake up in Dürnstein in Austria back in the Wachau valley – a lovely sleepy town surrounded by Vineyards and overlooked by its castle (it was here that Richard the Lionheart was held captive in the castle by Duke Leopold V of Austria). Also worth a visit is the House of Colours, a shop of a local artist known for her jewellery and prints on textiles.

Passau – Munich – Dubai – home with Emirates

Monday 27 August – Wednesday 29 August

After arrival in Passau and breakfast on board, we’re met and our baggage looked after while we have one last day free to explore this most beautiful German city before a 6pm Coach transfer from the centre of Passau direct to Munich Airport to catch our Emirates flights. Departs Munich at 10.45pm and will (via Dubai) access all major cities across Australia and New Zealand arriving on Wednesday 29 August.

Donna Ward and Ashleigh Baars

More than 25 years ago Donna Ward started her passion of patchwork and free-motion quilting. In those years she has taught in many places around New Zealand and Australia. As well as teaching her expert skills and designs, she has been awarded an array of national and international awards including the Jewel Pearce Patterson Scholarship for International Quilt Teachers in 2003.

From a very young age, Ashleigh was always found in her mothers sewing room, cutting into her precious fabric stash and sewing anything that came to her imagination. Ashleigh started teaching patchwork in her teens to children all around New Zealand. In 2006 Donna And Ashleigh turned their passion of fabric into a retail shop in Hamilton. Working as a fantastic Mother-Daughter team, they have grown their business into a nation wide hot spot for modern and funky fabrics and patterns. Along with beautiful free-motion quilting services, they both design unique and modern quilt pattern that they sell around the world.
